Lucky sunny stars

I am convinced that I was born under some really lucky stars on 1983. There has been one thing that has followed me my whole life and that thing is The Sun ( no, not the magazine, but the actual yellow shining thing on the sky, you know, that sun).

The old logo of Naantali

I was born in Naantali, also called the sunny town of Finland. So apparently there is a lot of sun, though it's not that special, the typical cold boring Finnish weather is still there. But we could say it propably has a bit more sun then normally. Well lucky me, everything was in order once I came around, because the same sun seems to be following me wherever I go.

In 2003 I moved to Tohmajärvi, a small village near the boarder with Russia. I must say it is around 700 kilometers from Naantali, so I took quite a leap. I didn't check the sun conditions before my settling in Tohmajärvi, but pretty soon I realized it had an abnormal amount of sun also. Great! The sun was on my side, again. It also had really nice people, very talkative though which felt a bit weird in the beginning, but I got use to it after some time. And some very famous people of Finland have come from Tohmajärvi. Maybe the sun brings also other good things in life, not only the weather conditions.

Seppo Räty. The hero of Tohmajärvi.

After Tohmajärvi I went to Zambia. Well, I guess no explanations needed. It was sunny, for sure. And I loved it, for real.

Zambia times

After Zambia I have been around, Italy, Spain, Sri Lanka.. Always enjoying the sun. I think in Finland it's not easy to find such sunny places that I have found. Considering Scandinavia, I read one day that for example in Bergen in Norway it rains approximately every two days out of three, imagine... Once it even rained 80 days straight there!
But lucky me, again, I am now in Noormarkku. And yet I have found another sunny place that this time comes with the peacefulness of easy countryside life.

Noormarkku River.

I was born under some lucky sunny stars indeed. More sun will be coming soon, the adventure number one is getting closer :) And I know those lame countdowns sound quite boring, but I am giving it a try..

30 days to go!!

Sometimes pictures tell more than words

Training farmers about heat detection. I was told here that every 9 cows out of 10 are not giving any signs of heat and are on silent heat.. We all know that´s not possible. So we went through the signs again and reminded the farmers that heat detection is one of the most important works in their farms. No calves, no milk.  Introducing a very simple and easy to use "heat calender" for the same group of farmers that were getting the training about heat detection. That´s my pilot group working with this calender. I am looking forward for the feedback on it´s usage and later will introduce it to more farmers if it seems to work out well. The only problem is that not all farmers are able to read, especially the elderly farmers so this comes out handy only for those who are able to read.  Teaching our community animal health worker to crab a cow for deworming.  With these Malawian cows you need to really strong!! No matter how small jerseys they are. Must sa...

Pachoko pachoko.. slowly slowly

Things happen slowly in Malawi, very slowly. We are slowly getting more to the field but not nearly as much that we should be going there. Last week we managed to see some cows. Our field team got a new volunteer from Canada offering veterinarian services. That was great! So at this time we are working on a proper database of all the farmers who are members of MDFA. The information is bit and bits there and there so it´s going to take some time but slowly getting there. Me and Abdullae on the field Just using the word slowly a lot now to make you understand the reality we live in. No point to get frustrated about it, just need to live with it. And anyway we are left with lot of other things to do so might as well enjoy the slowness. I can never talk enough about fuel and diesel, there might be some but you need to be really lucky to get it. There are days when even the black market runs out of fuel. The political situation is very unstable and we basicly living under alert all the time...

east side

My friend Kalle was reading my writings and he was very sad that I forgot to mention his name and that now I'm actually in Joensuu, so for all of you to know he is a good friend ( and for the ladies, single!! i get u a pic later..) so if you ever plan to visit Joensuu ( for some strange reason I don't understand because there is nothing here... except Ilosaarirock and lot of snow!!!) you can always depend on Kalle. Today I'm going to visit a very special place and some very special people. they were a great help when I really needed it some years ago. And for that I thank them because I am able to walk on my own feet again! Saatiin vaparit JokiPojat - Fops Mestis peliin, mutta kiinnostaako se jääkiekko niin paljon?? NO EI! Ihmiset on niin erilaisia taas täällä ja johtuneeko liian pitkään kaupungissa (tai turussa..) olosta et kesti taas hetken tottua että tuntemattomatkin voi hymyillä toisilleen! :)
