New old home

So the adventure took place in May and I am terribly late but here´s finally few pics from the way. Mom and me had one month to travel 750 kilometers from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. We didn´t walk all the way but both reached about 300 kilometers by foot and the rest was done by buss, taxi and train. It was an amazing experience and was really good to stay away for one month, it gives you a whole new starting point once you come back packed with good energy. Although it seems far now it was truly a memorable journey even though I didn´t experience any spiritual awakening but more like spiritual re-charging. Here's few pics from the walk.

After the trip I worked all summer and cleared out some plans for the future. This time I have moved back home to mom and dad, again, and studying some international development and traveling to England for the weekend to attend some courses. It's been quite relaxing times and been focusing on my studies but of course I miss the cows, my good friends and I try to visit them as often as I can. Will keep you updated on what´s going on and positive energy for the winter for everyone!

Sometimes pictures tell more than words

Training farmers about heat detection. I was told here that every 9 cows out of 10 are not giving any signs of heat and are on silent heat.. We all know that´s not possible. So we went through the signs again and reminded the farmers that heat detection is one of the most important works in their farms. No calves, no milk.  Introducing a very simple and easy to use "heat calender" for the same group of farmers that were getting the training about heat detection. That´s my pilot group working with this calender. I am looking forward for the feedback on it´s usage and later will introduce it to more farmers if it seems to work out well. The only problem is that not all farmers are able to read, especially the elderly farmers so this comes out handy only for those who are able to read.  Teaching our community animal health worker to crab a cow for deworming.  With these Malawian cows you need to really strong!! No matter how small jerseys they are. Must sa...

Pachoko pachoko.. slowly slowly

Things happen slowly in Malawi, very slowly. We are slowly getting more to the field but not nearly as much that we should be going there. Last week we managed to see some cows. Our field team got a new volunteer from Canada offering veterinarian services. That was great! So at this time we are working on a proper database of all the farmers who are members of MDFA. The information is bit and bits there and there so it´s going to take some time but slowly getting there. Me and Abdullae on the field Just using the word slowly a lot now to make you understand the reality we live in. No point to get frustrated about it, just need to live with it. And anyway we are left with lot of other things to do so might as well enjoy the slowness. I can never talk enough about fuel and diesel, there might be some but you need to be really lucky to get it. There are days when even the black market runs out of fuel. The political situation is very unstable and we basicly living under alert all the time...

back in the normal life

Last week there was a day that i decided to look for work, seriously I had enough of this "doing nothing, hanging around" -period, so I logged in to employment offices web site and started to look what they could offer me. I found a place where they needed cleaners, today I went to job interview in this small cleaning firm and I GOT THE PLACE! So congratulate me for my new work and by the way a whole new area for me, cleaning, but it shouldn't be so hard and I'm so glad I got something to do, it was really getting boring. So you might be wondering what's up with Africa? You know sometimes you plan something and things just don't work out the way you planned and this is very true when it comes to Africa. Well, this is what happened to me, but there is always plan B C D etc. so no problem, I will find the way to go back there, because I know that it's something that I really want. My thoughts are there everyday more and more, driving my friends crazy talking...
