Free days almost passed but still loving it ;)

Whoooaaahh, it's been great! I had 4 free days from work and must say I have really took the best out of it.

Day 1. Pure relax. I switched off my phone ( yes, you are totally allowed to do this, since mobiles people always think you need to be available at all times, but I do not agree, camoon, we all need some alone time sometimes), I slept around 13 hours, I walked to my neighbour to get some morning coffee ( 3 o'clock in the afternoon...), came back home and did absolutely nothing, just sat down and allowed complete laziness to roll over me. When working hard work with your body all days long, it is such a holiday to have a day like this sometimes.

Day 2. Enough of the lazines, though I did sleep another 13 hours. Then it was time for cleaning action. Made the house nice and tidy, then I hit the road to Turku city, which is by the way the European capital of culture this year, if you are interested visit Turku2011. I am not interested, to be honest, not at all. I see this "culture" taking money out of much more important things to spend the money for.

Day 3. Went to Caribia Spa in Turku with Sanna, the maker of Hemmot ( Dudes) that were seen in one park last summer. More relax time, it was wonderful! In the evening I saw all my 3 nieces, they are so adorable and again I was so happy to be the auntie of these little girls ( when they still can be called little, I know that for them being little is not going to last forever). Always happy to see family, it doesnt't happen too often anymore.

Day 4. After waking up to my youngest niece crying and some nice quality time with her, started driving back home. Now final relaxation, enjoying it with some South- African beats ;)

back in the normal life

Last week there was a day that i decided to look for work, seriously I had enough of this "doing nothing, hanging around" -period, so I logged in to employment offices web site and started to look what they could offer me. I found a place where they needed cleaners, today I went to job interview in this small cleaning firm and I GOT THE PLACE! So congratulate me for my new work and by the way a whole new area for me, cleaning, but it shouldn't be so hard and I'm so glad I got something to do, it was really getting boring. So you might be wondering what's up with Africa? You know sometimes you plan something and things just don't work out the way you planned and this is very true when it comes to Africa. Well, this is what happened to me, but there is always plan B C D etc. so no problem, I will find the way to go back there, because I know that it's something that I really want. My thoughts are there everyday more and more, driving my friends crazy talking...

Sometimes pictures tell more than words

Training farmers about heat detection. I was told here that every 9 cows out of 10 are not giving any signs of heat and are on silent heat.. We all know that´s not possible. So we went through the signs again and reminded the farmers that heat detection is one of the most important works in their farms. No calves, no milk.  Introducing a very simple and easy to use "heat calender" for the same group of farmers that were getting the training about heat detection. That´s my pilot group working with this calender. I am looking forward for the feedback on it´s usage and later will introduce it to more farmers if it seems to work out well. The only problem is that not all farmers are able to read, especially the elderly farmers so this comes out handy only for those who are able to read.  Teaching our community animal health worker to crab a cow for deworming.  With these Malawian cows you need to really strong!! No matter how small jerseys they are. Must sa...

Preparing for Malawi

Well, time is running and my "to do list" is still quite long. The good news is that my flights to Malawi have been confirmed and I will be flying out on the 4th of February. So there is less than 3 weeks to go which at times brings a slight "panic related feelings" but calms down fast after realizing that 3 weeks is plenty of time to get everything sorted out. Autumn time passed fast with all the training we had to do with VSO. It seemed a lot in the beginning and I was wondering how am I going to survive all those studies both in England and online. If you come with an academic background it must be not that bad at all. But if you come with less studying background like I did it really seems like a whole lot of work to do, with lots of paper work, lots of big issues packed with big words! But now when I look back at it all it's been amazing times, have learned so much, enjoyed the conversations with other volunteers and had so much fun too! And I am happy that...
